25 Aprile, the 25th of April, is one of the Republic’s most important celebrations, as it marks the anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
Traditionally, 25 Aprile is celebrated with parades and ceremonies all over the country, but this year, because of the coronavirus pandemic, it hasn’t been possible.
President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, decided to honor the dead of the Second World War by visiting the Altare della Patria, where Italy’s Unknown Soldier rests, in spite of restrictions. Alone, wearing a surgical mask –just like each and everyone of us when outside — he stood for all Italians in front of the monument symbolizing more than any other in the country unity, patriotism and love for the country.
