Best Italian Beaches: 2 Ranked Among the Best in Europe

Two Italian beaches are among the best in Europe. According to the organization Best European Destinations, the most visited website for travel in Europe. Italy, with its incredibly diverse landscape, boasts every type of beach imaginable, from the renowned cliffs of the Cinque Terre to the crystalline waters of Tropea or the island of Capri, just to name a few.

For your Italian beach vacation, you have no more excuses. Come discover the two beaches that make the rest of Europe envious!

Scialara Beach (Vieste)

Located in Vieste, the most beautiful Italian beach occupies the 12th position in the ranking of Europe’s most beautiful beaches. With over 3 km of golden sand, countless beach resorts catering to every last whim, and a flat promenade ideal for sunset strolls, Scialara Beach is one of the main attractions of the Apulian coast.

Characteristic is the monolith that overlooks the entire beach. The solitary rock sentinel is considered the symbol of the beach, which is imposing and solitary and is locally called pizzomunno.

The surprises don’t end here. More unique than rare are the small artificial streams that flow into the sea, called cùrrend in the local dialect. They cross the entire beach, connecting the sea to the hills far from the coast.

How to get there? I recommend booking a flight to Foggia Airport and staying in Vieste, which is about 90 minutes away.

Grado Beach (Grado)

Closing in the 13th position is Grado Beach, located in Northern Italy between Venice and Trieste. It’s impossible not to mention the international recognition of the Blue Flag, awarded to beaches that meet dozens of environmental, quality, and safety criteria. For the record, however, let me remind you of the quality of Italian coastlines, with over 400 beaches awarded the Blue Flag in 2024!

The territory of Grado, once under Habsburg rule, is still famous for its beach, with beach resorts defined as Habsburg style. However, the over 10 km of beach always satisfy everyone, from the lover of loungers on the shore to the most daring who enjoy the infamous kite surfing.
