The Jubilee 2025 (December 24, 2024–January 6, 2026) will focus on technology and innovation. To welcome the 32 million pilgrims expected, manage access, and coordinate activities, the Vatican has developed a new dedicated app, Iubilaeum25, along with Julia, the virtual assistant for the faithful.
What is the Iubilaeum25 app?
Available on all mobile devices, this app is designed to assist and support pilgrims visiting Rome. It offers a wealth of information, including:
- Historical notes about the Jubilee,
- The official prayer text,
- An audio version of the Jubilee hymn,
- A detailed event calendar,
- The latest news about the Holy Year,
- Guides to the Jubilee pathways within Rome.
While the app is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended to simplify your experience and ensure you don’t miss out on everything the Jubilee has to offer.
The Pilgrim’s Card, however, is a different story. This card is mandatory for attending all Jubilee events. Free and personalized, it can be scanned as a QR code, eliminating the need to carry a physical card while traveling through Rome. Additionally, the card provides access to discounts and benefits on transportation and accommodations. However, the card is only available through the app, which you’ll need to download onto your device.
Meet Julia, the virtual assistant for the faithful
Julia is arguably the most valuable resource provided by the organizers of the event. Developed in collaboration with Microsoft, this virtual assistant supports over 60 languages and can provide all the information you need about the Jubilee and Rome.
Although it is debuting for the Jubilee, Julia’s functionality extends far beyond the event itself. It is, in fact, a comprehensive digital guide to Rome. You can use Julia to find information on restaurants, architecture, history, shopping, and more through your phone.
Rome is upgrading its internet networks to support this significant influx of pilgrims and enhance connectivity. Free Wi-Fi will be available in 65 public squares, a number expected to rise to 100 after the Jubilee. Additionally, next-generation 5G networks—100 times faster than 4G—will provide smooth, low-latency internet access to all tourists across the city, ensuring a seamless experience with zero delays.
